The Faculty of Global Studies develops human resources who can play an active role in our global society.
The concept of "global" is undergoing a sea change today as the Internet has made it possible for people to engage in global activities anywhere in the world. Japan is in need of people who can take the initiative and act now. The Faculty of Global Studies, to be launched in April 2015, will contribute to society by promoting international exchange rigorously and educating students who can play an active role in our global society as competent world citizens.
The curriculum is planned to broaden the students' horizons gradually, first studying about Japan, then about the Asia-Pacific region, and finally about the world. The subjects include Law, Economics, Politics, and Environmental Studies as well as History, Geography, Culture, and Religion. The students will acquire a solid foundation of liberal arts which will enable them to continue studying throughout their lives.
The Japanese are generally said to be overly concerned about the accuracy of their grammar and vocabulary. Grammar and vocabulary are certainly important, but expressing your opinion clearly, while respecting and accepting other people's cultures and feelings, is much more important. We place emphasis on language as a means of communication so the students can acquire a working knowledge of English or Chinese through active conversation practice.
All second-year students are required to study abroad for 8 weeks at CUC's partner universities in the USA, UK, Australia, India, China and Taiwan. Studying abroad is more than language training. Living in an environment with a different language and culture is a valuable experience for future global citizens. The students are also encouraged to participate in summer schools overseas and CUC's many exchange programs in their third or fourth year.
