Faculty of Policy Informatics

In the Faculty of Policy Informatics, we believe in a hands-on approach to learning that includes direct involvement with local communities. Our faculty members work side by side with our students to support them as they learn IT skills and media expression skills. To this end, we have adopted a broad, cross-disciplinary approach that helps students learn how to identify and solve problems, centered on two courses: “Regional Policies” and "Media Informatics." We welcome students who are enthusiastic and motivated to acquire the ability to tackle and solve the problems faced by modern society.

Fundamental Qualities for Prospective Students

Share our faculty's educational philosophy and possess the basic academic skills needed to actively address the problems faced by society, along with a strong desire to engage in learning beyond their field of study

  • A desire to create and undertake innovative projects and activities that leverage media technology, together with free and flexible thinking
  • A desire to improve one's communicative competence and capacity for expression, and translate problem-solving ideas into action, while working side by side with faculty members and other students

Admission Assessment Policy

Candidates applying for admission to the Faculty of Policy Informatics will be assessed comprehensively on their individuality, inquisitiveness, capacity for expression, and knowledge and skills to ensure they understand the idea of identifying and solving problems, which the Faculty of Policy Informatics aims to nurture in students, and are able to realize this in the local community and society.

The interview will focus on whether the candidates have a specific idea about what they want to learn at university, the course they would like to pursue, the classes they would like to take, and their plans for the future. Candidates will also be assessed on their conversation skills, communicative competence, and the ability to promote themselves. Candidates' ability to respond flexibly to the questions posed by the panel will be assessed, along with their ability to express ideas in their own words.

When screening documents such as the candidate's school record and study plan, the assessment will also take into account the results of learning and activities in high school, the specificity and feasibility of the plan that the candidate is hoping to pursue at university, and results of activities such as certificates for qualifications obtained or other projects and work produced in high school.

The scholastic ability test and the open-ended questions will focus on reading comprehension, foreign language competence, mathematical ability, and general knowledge covered in high school to assess whether the candidates have accurately understood what they learned in high school.

  1. Selection by School Recommendation
    1-1 Selection by the School Recommendation under the Designated Schools System/Open Recruitment System (Academic Evaluation Category)
    In this admission category, emphasis will be placed on the interview, the school record, the study plan, and a short essay.
    1-2 Selection by the School Recommendation under the Open Recruitment System (Qualifications/Certifications Category)
    In this admission category, emphasis will be placed on the interview, the school record, and the study plan, as well as any relevant qualifications or certificates.
  2. General Selection
    In the General Selection, candidates with particularly excellent grades will be selected as scholarship students.
    2-1 Individual Examination
    In this admission category, admission will be determined comprehensively, with a particular focus on the assessment of application documents such as the candidate's school record and results of the scholastic ability test/open-ended questions.
    2-2 Standardized Examination
    In this admission category, admission will be determined comprehensively, with a particular focus on the assessment of application documents such as the candidate's school record and the results of the Standardized Examination.
  3. Comprehensive Selection
    3-1 Comprehensive Selection for Scholarship Students
    Under the Comprehensive Selection for Scholarship Students, candidates with particularly outstanding grades will be selected as scholarship students.
    • Presentation Category
      In this admission category, candidates are required to give a presentation. Here, special emphasis is placed on the candidate's ability to propose unique solutions to problems and issues faced by society or their area of interest, based on investigation and analysis.
    • Qualifications/Certifications Category
      In this admission category, in addition to the interview and study plan, emphasis is placed on qualifications and certifications of relevant achievements that demonstrate the candidate's learning and activities in high school.
    • Recommendation by a Teacher who has graduated from this university
      In this admission category, in addition to the interview and study plan, weight will be given to the candidate's school record and a short essay.
    • Inquiry-Based Learning Category
      In this admission category, in addition to the interview and study plan, emphasis is placed on the process of the efforts in inquiry-based learning through an inquiry-based learning report and an oral examination.
    3-2 General Comprehensive Selection (Aptitude Test Category)
    The aptitude test conducted in this admission category will assess whether the candidates have the basic academic skills needed to proactively address problems and issues society is facing today.
    3-3 General Comprehensive Selection (Qualifications/Certifications Category)
    In this admission category, in addition to the interview and study plan, emphasis is placed on qualifications/certifications of relevant achievements that demonstrate the candidate's learning and activities in high school.
    3-4 General Comprehensive Selection (Activities Category)
    In this admission category, in addition to the interview and study plan, emphasis will be placed on extracurricular activities undertaken by the candidate. Here, extracurricular activities refer to achievements in activities such as extracurricular activities or projects/ work created in high school and to qualification/test-related achievements that demonstrate the candidate's learning in high school.
    3-5 Simultaneous Comprehensive Selection (Activities Category)
    In this admission category, in addition to the school record, interview, and study plan, extracurricular activities undertaken by the candidate will be considered. Here, extracurricular activities refer to achievements in activities such as extracurricular activities or work created in high school and to qualification/test-related achievements that demonstrate the candidate's learning in high school.
