About the 90th anniversary commemoration project

Chiba University of Commerce, which started as Sugamo Higher Commercial School in 1928, will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2018. During this time, the university has been sending out business people who will play a central role in industry, with "practical education" as its founding principle. In 2014, in response to the rapid decline in the population of college-age students, the university established CUC Vision 100 for its 100th anniversary and launched the "First Medium-Term Management Plan 2014-2018," with the entire university working together to solidify its foundation as a "comprehensive university of practical learning." As a result, the university has been able to establish itself as a comprehensive university of social sciences with five faculties.

We regard our 90th anniversary as the first step towards our 100th anniversary, and will be carrying out various commemorative projects under the slogan of our educational philosophy of "nurturing 'chidoka' with a high sense of ethics" and the motto of "creating highly virtuous businesspeople." In order to nurture human resources who will support the difficult Japanese society as Japan's population continues to decline at an accelerating rate, we need to further strengthen our research and educational capabilities. To do this, we need to strengthen our financial base. We would like to ask for donations from all concerned parties. Thank you very much.

During that time, we have produced many talented individuals who are trusted by society. This is the result of the efforts of our predecessors, and also the support of our university's traditions of education and research. It is also thanks to the support of people from all walks of life and all walks of life who have supported our university. Once again, I would like to express my gratitude as President.

Chairman of the Board Yoshinaka Harada

It is my sincere hope that the 90th anniversary of our founding will be an opportunity for us to achieve even greater success.

Chiba Gakuen Educational Corporation Chairman of the Board Yoshinaka Harada

Our school was founded in 1928 by the late Doctor of Literature, Takayoshi Endo, as Sugamo Higher Commercial School. At the time, there was a socio-economic recession, and founding a school was an extremely difficult task, but with an indomitable spirit and passion for education.

In 1944, under special wartime provisions, the school was renamed Sugamo College of Economics, and in 1946, the campus was established in Kounodai. With the implementation of the new education system, in April 1950, the school took on its current name of Chiba University of Commerce, becoming a four-year university with only Department of Commerce in the Faculty of Commerce. The late Mori Shikuma, former Chairman of the Board who built the foundation for what we are today and participated in management, said, "The reason our school was allowed to establish a university is because of the traditions we have had since our founding and the alumni who have watched over the school. It is the culmination of the precious hard work and effort achieved through the cooperation of the school and its alumni."

Since then, we have striven to thoroughly provide practical education and promote the spirit of our founding, and have grown into an institution of higher education with five faculties and seven departments, one doctoral graduate school, three master's graduate schools, and one graduate school for professional accounting degrees. We have focused on improving the content of our education and research, as well as expanding and improving our facilities, and have received high praise both at home and abroad.

The socio-economic environment surrounding education is becoming increasingly severe due to factors such as the declining birthrate, changes in industrial structure, and globalization, and universities are being asked to actively reform themselves.

It is my sincere hope that the 90th anniversary of our founding will be an opportunity for us to achieve even greater success.

Keiji Katsuta, Alumni Association President

We would like to further strengthen our foundation and aim for the alumni association to make further progress along with the progress of the university.

Alumni Association President Keiji Katsuta

"Raising chidoka "
"Creating highly virtuous businesspeople. 90th anniversary Chiba University of Commerce"

The slogan and catchphrase for this 90th anniversary project are based on the samurai spirit and convey the high status and tradition of the University of Commerce. I am deeply moved by the fact that our practical education has achieved great results and that our alma mater is progressing rapidly as a practical university of social sciences.

Many people attend alumni associations, which deepen their relationships through strong bonds and build personal connections, and in the process, we believe that our ultimate goal is to achieve self-realization, strengthen our foundations, and contribute back to our alma mater.
This term, new branches, women's groups, alumni reunions, and young people's exchange groups have been established, and long-held visions for the future are beginning to take shape.
We will mark the 90th anniversary of our founding as a milestone, and as we approach our 100th anniversary, we would like to further strengthen our foundation and strive for even greater progress for our alumni association along with the university's progress.

When we reach our 100th anniversary, we would like all Chiba University of Commerce to share this joy together.
We sincerely ask for the cooperation of all alumni.

Realizing "CUC Vision 100"

Based on its educational philosophy of "cultivating'chidoka' through practical education," Chiba University of Commerce formulated its future vision, "CUC Vision 100," in April 2014 for its 100th anniversary, which clarifies the university's social mission and the direction it aims to follow.

chidoka is a leader with a strong sense of ethics who can take a broad perspective, grasp the changes of the times, and solve various social problems.

Becoming a "comprehensive university of practical learning"

In order to develop talented individuals who can support and develop a complex and changing society, it is essential to have a solid basic education, a wide range of liberal arts, and practical education that is useful in the real world. To this end, our university aims to become a "comprehensive university of practical learning" that encompasses various fields of social sciences, based on our traditions.
