Chiba University of Commerce was founded in February 1928 by Doctor of Letters Endo Takayoshi as Sugamo Higher Commercial School, and will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2028.
The founder, Ryukichi Endo, was concerned about the prevalence of profit-mongering in the world at the time of the university's establishment, and believed that it was urgent to train "people who are moral and chidoka" and who are useful to society, and practiced "practical learning" education, which is learning that is useful in the real world. Chiba University of Commerce has inherited this "Endoism" as the spirit of its founding and has grown steadily to this day.
Chiba University of Commerce High School was founded in 1951 as a boys' school by Doctor of Law Shikuma Mori, and has nurtured talented students in General Course and Commerce Course under the educational philosophy of "practical learning." In 2004, the school transitioned to a coeducational system, and will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2026.
In recent years, the university has been focusing on promoting collaboration between universities and their affiliated high schools, as well as integrating high schools and universities. A seven-year integrated financial literacy program has already begun, but the university plans to expand this to include SDGs education and information education.
We promise that, 10, 20 years from now, and beyond, we will continue to exist as "an academy that society needs," offering educational programs that can only be learned here.
Shigeo Uchida
Graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Keio University in 1965. Joined the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
After working in the Securities Department of the Editorial Department, the Japan Center for Economic Research, head of the Securities Department at the Tokyo Head Office, and as an editorial writer, he became Professor Chiba University of Commerce in 2000. Since 2011, he has been Managing Director of the Chiba Gakuen School Corporation (until May 2019). Professor emeritus Chiba University of Commerce.
He has served as a member of the Economic Council, the Securities and Exchange Council, and the Council for Comprehensive Energy.
Her hobby is chorus.
