Ryukichi Endo Research Center

Message from the Director

研究所長

My name is Kutsuki Ryo, and I will be the new director Ryukichi Endo Research Center from 2024. Professor Endo Ryukichi, who founded our university, was a great researcher and educator who not only wrote books in a wide range of fields, including sociology, philosophy, the history of Eastern thought, education, political science, and psychology, but also put his philosophical and educational beliefs into practice in the real world, based on ideals such as "humanistic Orientalism" and "vitalism."

On the other hand, many of his works are written in old kana or Chinese characters, or remain as calligraphy but have not been reprinted, making it difficult for us today to easily come into contact with his ideas. This has also led to evaluations and erroneous interpretations based on speculation without sufficient verification.

Ryukichi Endo Research Center will rely on a wealth of historical materials and writings to objectively and empirically reevaluate Endo's achievements based on intellectual history and historical methodology. In addition to his books, Endo has also published many essays and lecture transcripts. We will collect all of this information to create a comprehensive catalog of his works, and will also reprint some of them and document untranslated materials.

As we approach the 100th anniversary of the founding of Chiba University of Commerce (formerly Sugamo Higher Commercial School) in 2028, we will work to make the achievements of Professor Endo Ryukichi widely known to the world, so we would appreciate your guidance and encouragement.

Ryukichi Endo Research Center Purpose

Ryukichi Endo Research Center was established for the purpose of researching and honoring the achievements, writings, and remains of Dr. Endo Ryukichi, the founder of our university. We also conduct research and honor other people connected to the university, as well as the history of the Chiba Gakuen School Corporation, Chiba University of Commerce, and its affiliated high schools.
