Symposiums, training sessions, etc.

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, CUC Research Institute Research Forum was held on Chiba University of Commerce campus to summarize the activities of all research institutes in fiscal year 2024. Nine projects were presented, including regular projects led by Head and Deputy Head of each research institute and competitive projects selected through an internal call for proposals. Over 80 people (including online participants) from both inside and outside the university participated. CUC Research Institute, which is made up of five research institutes, was established in March 2023 and is now in its second year. The number of projects has gradually increased since its first year, and 19 projects are scheduled to be implemented in fiscal year 2025.

Comment from the Director CUC Research Institute

総合研究センター長Chiba University of Commerce CUC Research Institute held a research forum on February 5, 2025, and the report has been made available as a video. Please watch the video to see the contents of each research report. Here, I would like to say a few words about the direction of our university's research activities.

Our research center does not have full-time researchers, and research is carried out by faculty members from our university and visiting researchers from outside the university. Each research project is initiated based on a proposal from a researcher or research group, with a set deadline and budget, and annual reports are submitted.
As a comprehensive social sciences university, with the goal of integrating social sciences, our research content is extremely diverse and, by necessity, interdisciplinary. Furthermore, research results in the social sciences and humanities generally take a very long time to produce results, and many are published in single-authored specialist publications. However, CUC Research Institute is pursuing these research projects in a short-term, piecemeal manner. While this approach differs from the traditional approach to social science research and is somewhat contradictory, I believe it is appropriate for our university's research, which aims to be practical. The role of the Research Forum is to communicate these findings to the general public in an easy-to-understand manner. The 2025 report only had half a day, and because we introduced so many research projects, we were unable to set aside time for questions and answers. However, I hope that we were able to provide some understanding of our research.
For more detailed information on each research topic, please feel free to ask individual questions. Indeed, in order to advance interdisciplinary research, presentations at forums like this one and informal, free discussions are essential. Professor Leo Esaki, former President of the University of Tsukuba, has described this as "day science and night science" and the "Janus nature of research activities." We researchers have multiple roles and continue our research in some form, day or night.
