On December 5, 2024, the first "Vitalist Philosophy Conference" was held in cooperation with Ryukichi Endo Research Center. The conference was held for students enrolled in the "Philosophy" and "Ethics" general liberal arts courses Platform for Arts and Sciences. A total of nine students from four faculties participated: Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Service Innovation, and the Faculty of Policy and Information Studies.
The purpose of the Vitalist Philosophy Conference is to explore the meaning and potential of "Vitalist Philosophy," the final thought of Professor Ryukichi Endo, through dialogue-based discussion. Participating students were encouraged to speak freely about the themes and issues that interested them most, and to discuss their respective perspectives and solutions and approaches to these issues. An award was given to the person whose statement best expressed the essence of the phenomenon. The first award went to a first-year student. Topics discussed included: "Is falling asleep in class because of the class, or because of myself?", "Is self-harm bad?", "Overeating and anxiety?", "What is the true nature of the difference between real names and nicknames?", "Society as oppression that cannot be silenced?", "What is love?", "What is happiness?", "The significance of troublemakers?", and "What is inhumanity?" Participants continued to listen and talk for two and a half hours, sometimes laughing and sometimes seriously, listening to each other's stories. I am truly pleased that we were able to have such an informative and insightful discussion.
With the cooperation of Ryukichi Endo Research Center, we hope to continue holding this event in the future as a forum for exploring the ideals and realization of vitalist philosophy, and we hope to invite students from all faculties, not just Platform for Arts and Sciences Education, to participate.
