Project Purpose

This research focuses on the ways in which the views on work and gender shaped by ancient Greek intellectuals were passed down to Western intellectuals throughout the Middle Ages and modern times, and have influenced contemporary work systems and gender norms. In particular, it analyzes the relationship between women's labor force participation and declining birthrates in Japan and Taiwan, and explores the ideal form of gender equality and a sustainable society through a reevaluation of unpaid care work. The aim is to understand the changes in the social structures of Japan and Taiwan from a historical and comparative perspective and to construct a theoretical framework.
