Project Purpose

Due to factors such as the small size of the country, remoteness from markets, and the impact of natural disasters, Pacific island nations find it difficult to attract foreign investment and strengthen their manufacturing industries, and therefore are required to develop their economies independently by making use of local resources. Fiji is blessed with tourism resources that contribute to its economic development, but it also faces challenges such as a lack of infrastructure and the outflow of human resources. In this study, we will conduct on-site research to uncover the potential of Fiji's tourism industry, and explore Japan's contributions to increasing its appeal and the ideal form of sustainable development based on what Japan can learn from the country.
