Principles

  • A 100% renewable energy society is a locally -distributed energy society.
  • In order to form this society, we need to produce and consume renewable energy responsibly.
  • This corresponds to SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Chiba University of Commerce Environmental Goals

2018 Goals

To make Chiba University of Commerce the first RE100 University* in Japan with net zero.
To offset the energy consumed by CUC with the energy produced by the Noda Mega-Solar Farm and others, with regard to electricity.
* 100% Renewable Energy University with regard to electricity

2023 Goals

To make Chiba University of Commerce the first 100% Renewable Energy University in Japan with net zero.
To offset the energy consumed by CUC with the energy produced by the Noda Mega-Solar Farm and others, with regard to all energy.

Sustainable Development Goals: SDGs

These environmental goals correspond to SDG 13: Climate Action in the list of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted at the UN Summit in September 2015.
In the Paris Agreement, Japan committed to the goal of reducing greenhouse gases by 26% from 2013 levels by 2030. The way to achieve this goal is to promote the introduction of renewable energy and implement stringent energy conservation measures, and CUC is trying to contribute to the achievement of this goal.

Became the first Japanese university to be registered on the 100% Renewable Energy Platform

By making the environmental declaration, CUC was registered as the first educational institution to declare 100% renewable energy on the 100% Renewable Energy Platform (run by CAN-Japan), an international initiative advocating the achievement of 100% renewable energy (November 13, 2017)
* CAN is a major international climate action network consisting of more than 1,100 NGOs from over 120 countries.
