University of Nebraska at Omaha (Summer)
Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration Department of Commerce Miyuki Izumisawa
This training program was my first time traveling to the United States, and I had many new experiences and was able to notice the differences between Japan and the United States.
My purpose in going to the University of Nebraska was to experience a culture that was different from Japan, and also to overcome my discomfort with English and become more familiar with it.
I participated in the summer program at the University of Nebraska this time, and I was able to communicate with others in my poor English, which helped me to lose some of my fear of English and gain confidence. However, I was still only able to communicate with others and have them understand me, so I wanted to be able to speak English in a way that would allow me to have normal conversations.
Our host families, who looked after us every day, were studying Japanese, so we were able to improve each other's language skills by having conversations with each other, such as "How do you say it in English?" and "How do you say it in Japanese?"
I was able to gain a lot of experience through this program, so I would like to participate again if I have the opportunity. Also, it made me want to travel abroad myself.
