Entrepreneurship support (Student Venture Cafeteria)

Entrepreneurship support (Student Venture Cafeteria)

Our university encourages students to have the desire to start their own businesses while they are enrolled, and has a support system in place for hands-on learning experiences.

In April 2011, in order to provide students with an opportunity to start their own businesses, the university began accepting applications from student venture companies to open and operate restaurants in three cafeteria spaces on campus. Three restaurants that passed a rigorous selection process were awarded the right to renew their opening for one year by the university, and continue to operate.

When selecting restaurants, we place emphasis on their management structure, hygiene management, appropriate income and expenditure plans, and attractive menu items and prices, as they will be entrusted with the important task of providing meals to students and faculty.
Student managers who pass the selection process will then go through a series of preparations necessary to open a restaurant, including obtaining the food hygiene manager qualifications and business licenses required to operate a restaurant, and filing a sole proprietorship registration with the tax office in order to pay taxes.
Student managers will be professional restaurant managers, just like other cafeterias at the university, and will be primarily responsible for providing meals during lunch breaks, and managing their quality and hygiene and safety, and will be required to balance this with their studies while they are enrolled.

Based on the idea that "stores are classrooms," in addition to providing tenant space, the university subsidizes utility costs, waste disposal costs, and labor costs, checks the financial status of each store every month, and provides timely guidance if improvements are deemed necessary. However, the student managers are responsible for the costs of fixtures, consumables, and raw materials necessary for operation. This student venture cafeteria is unique to our university, which has practical education as its educational philosophy. Students will apply the theories learned in class to operate the store and acquire management knowledge and skills that will be useful in the real world.
