Curriculum Policy (Platform for Arts and Sciences)

Curriculum Policy (Policy for organizing and implementing the curriculum)

In order to build a foundation for becoming a "chidoka" (a leader with a strong sense of ethics who can see the big picture, grasp the changes of the times, and solve various social issues) as advocated by our university's founder, Ryukichi Endo, we will establish a "CUC Foundational Education Course Group" that will be studied by students from all faculties.
In the CUC Foundational Education Course, the curriculum is organized and implemented as follows, primarily to enable students to acquire the "broad knowledge" and "high ethical standards" set forth in the Diploma Policy.

We have set up "CUC Basic Subjects" that teach the university's founding purpose and spirit, acquire the basics as a student of our university and foster independence and self-reliance, "Common Liberal Arts Subjects" that provide a wide range of knowledge including ethics, SDGs, and responding to information society, "Trilingual Subjects" that foster understanding of diversity and communication skills, and "Lifelong Care Subjects (Health Management, Career)" that cultivate basic knowledge to enrich the lives of people in the era of 100-year lifespans, such as lifelong health management and financial literacy.
In addition, in order to implement university-wide education that transcends the boundaries of faculties, we will organize classes that cross faculties and allow interaction between diverse students. We will also set up a first-year seminar in which students will learn about the meaning of studying at university, think about their own careers, motivate themselves to study, and acquire the way of learning as a university student.

CUC Basic Courses

In CUC's basic courses, students are taught the founding spirit of striving to become "chidoka" with a strong sense of ethics, and are gradually trained in the basics to conduct independent research and express the results of their research in the form of university-level reports, papers, presentations, etc. For independent research, students are taught the basics of the way of thinking to interpret the literature and data they obtain by using Library and the Internet. They are then taught the structure and format of a thesis, and are given the experience of actually writing a thesis based on a specific research objective. Through the above, students are trained in the basic academic skills required for four years of university study.
In addition, to help students acquire the attitude of designing their own learning based on their own objectives and goals, students are made to design their own four-year university studies in detail. Furthermore, they are positioned and evaluated based on their future goals, and are taught through experiential learning to develop a sense of ownership and motivation so that they can continue to grow and independently design their own learning even after graduating from university. In doing so, students are made to acquire the ability to produce intellectual output not alone but as part of a team. Experiential learning allows students to come into contact with the real world, and also provides an opportunity for them to clarify their own future goals and careers.

General Education Courses

In an era where the knowledge and skills required by society are changing rapidly and it is difficult to predict their future direction, we aim to provide students with the "new liberal arts" that are needed. Students will study subjects that will form the foundation of specialized education in their departments and faculties, while also being exposed to as many introductory contents as possible in various academic fields outside their specialization. By being exposed to a variety of academic fields, students will be able to grasp how to learn knowledge and skills in a field that they did not necessarily specialize in during their careers after graduating from university, and be able to start learning anew on their own. With this in mind, we have organized a curriculum consisting of three areas: humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Furthermore, based on the founding spirit, we have also established a group of ethics and SDGs subjects that provide interdisciplinary learning in order to acquire an ethical sense that perceives social issues as their own problems and seeks to solve them, and the ability to realize this.

Trilingual

In a globalized world where the movement of people, goods, money, and information on a global scale is becoming more and more active, in addition to the ability to use a foreign language as a tool for communication between people ("natural language"), it is becoming increasingly important to understand and be able to use the medium for receiving and transmitting information ("information language"), and to understand and be able to use the movement and exchange of goods and money ("accounting language"), and so we are establishing courses in these three languages.

(natural language)
Intercultural communication skills in a foreign language and one's native language are important when working with people from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds in the real world. We have organized a curriculum that begins in the first year and is made up of compulsory foreign language subjects to acquire universal knowledge and skills in using a foreign language as a foundation and build a foundation for communication skills, as well as elective subjects to cultivate communication skills that can be used in the real world, including international understanding and intercultural response.

(Information Language)
The curriculum, which begins in the first year, is designed to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills in information and communications, data processing, and digital technology that will serve as the foundation for not only university life but also working in the real world, as well as to equip them with the code of conduct for properly handling information and data (information ethics) and information security that will be necessary in the information society.

(Accounting Language)
This course will teach students accounting literacy and develop a sense of ethics by understanding its role and the importance of accountability, while also equipping them with the ability to obtain and use accounting information from case studies, leading to practical learning for use in the business world.

Lifelong Care Subjects

Lifelong care courses are a group of subjects that provide students with knowledge about health, career development, and financial planning in order to live a rich life.

(health care)
A curriculum has been developed to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills to manage their own health throughout their lives, while also providing a foundation for mental and physical health that will serve as the foundation for their studies. This curriculum is implemented from the first year onwards.
Additionally, classes will be held with the aim of helping students acquire the skills required of a "chidoka" through the four experiences inherent in sports activities (self-disclosure, cooperation with others, achievement of a challenge, and realization of enjoyment).

(Career)
In today's rapidly changing society, we organize and implement a gradual and diverse curriculum to acquire the knowledge and abilities to build a career by utilizing one's values and strengths in accordance with changes in life space and life stage. After knowing one's aptitude, we provide opportunities to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for working, and create a plan for growth in university life and beyond.
In addition, a life plan is necessary to build a rich life. To achieve this, it is necessary to acquire basic knowledge and ethical understanding regarding basic money planning at an early stage. We will establish compulsory subjects to give students the ability to put these into practice and apply them to their lives.

Advanced Program

We will establish an advanced program that allows for systematic learning in cutting-edge fields where learning across disciplines creates greater value.

(Global field)
As globalization progresses, it is becoming increasingly important to have "multicultural coexistence skills" that allow students to understand people with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds and work together while respecting the differences between themselves and others. In order to acquire "multicultural coexistence skills" that allow students to utilize the specialized knowledge and skills they learn in each faculty in a wide range of situations, we have established a group of subjects that emphasizes the development of communication skills using English as an international language, and a group of subjects that emphasize the development of knowledge, understanding, and thinking skills about historical, political, cultural, and religious backgrounds, and have organized a curriculum that allows students to deepen their learning according to their needs.

(Information field)
We will develop and implement a curriculum that will equip students with the necessary knowledge to conduct research and analysis in the fields of humanities and social sciences using knowledge of information and data science.
Specifically, we will offer courses in statistics, mathematics, information processing, programming, AI, and data science, which will be conducted in the form of computer-based exercises or lectures to enable students to conduct data-based analysis in a variety of fields covered by the humanities and social sciences.

(Career field)
The course will aim to develop a career perspective, skills and mindset to survive in an era where once-in-a-century changes occur every year and role models are constantly being updated. Specifically, the course will be divided into areas such as "knowing the industry and companies," "knowing society," "knowing yourself," "meeting role models," and "achieving overwhelming growth," and courses will be set up for each area. The course aims to provide a quality experience and realize diversification of career paths after graduation from the university.

The knowledge and skills acquired in each of the above courses will be recorded in the syllabus, and the learning outcomes will be evaluated according to the evaluation methods and standards described in the syllabus. The relationships between courses will be made visible, allowing students to take courses and study in a systematic manner. In addition, the curriculum will be regularly inspected and revised based on the demands of society and the needs of students.
