How to become a Certified Public Accountant?

In principle, to become a certified public accountant, you must pass the Certified Public Accountant Examination. After working as an assistant for more than two years, you will then take supplementary practical training (implemented by the Japan Accounting Education and Training Organization). After passing the final examination of the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants, you will be qualified to become a certified public accountant after receiving confirmation from the Prime Minister.

The Certified Public Accountant exam requires candidates to pass four multiple-choice exams held twice a year (Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Auditing, and Business Law) and five essay exams held once a year (Accounting, Auditing, Tax Law, Business Law, and an elective subject (choose one subject from Business Administration, Economics, Civil Law, and Statistics)).

If you pass the short-answer test, you will be exempt from taking the short-answer test for two years. A subject-pass system has been introduced for the essay test, and you will be exempt from passing the subject for two years.

Anyone can take the exam, regardless of age, educational background, gender, or nationality.
