The design and construction of "The University DINING" and the "Photo Rogue in Ichikawa" activities were awarded the "11th Ichikawa City Landscape Award."
Ichikawa City presents the "Ichikawa City Landscape Award" to organizations that have made outstanding achievements in creating a good landscape in four categories: educational events, architecture and townscape, greening, and cleaning. This award, which began in 2007, has been awarded to a total of 43 groups to date, and in 2014, the seminar of Professor Kutsuki Ryo of the Faculty of Policy and Information Studies was recognized for "raising awareness of the local landscape and revitalizing the area through 'Nakayama Sando Dot Konmu'" for creating a booklet introducing the area.
This time, Chiba Gakuen Educational Corporation's "Design and Construction of the University Dining Hall" won the "Architecture and Townscape" category, the first time for our university. The building was recognized for its glass exterior on three sides, which creates a sense of openness and continuity with the outside, as well as for the effective placement of wood in the ceiling beams to blend in with the surrounding trees and create a comfortable atmosphere through natural lighting and ventilation.
In addition, Dining Service Design Lab's "Landscape Awareness Activities through 'Photo Rogain in Ichikawa'" won the Awareness Events category. Dining Service Design Lab does not limit "The University Dining" to just being a place to serve delicious food, but also develops initiatives to nurture students' sensibility, initiative, and imagination from an educational perspective, as well as events aimed at opening up the cafeteria to the local community. One of these initiatives is the running event "Photo Rogain in Ichikawa." Photo Rogaining is a sport in which participants travel around checkpoints set up on a map within a time limit, take photos that match the checkpoints, and collect points. The event was recognized for providing an opportunity for participants from both inside and outside the city to learn about the charms of Ichikawa that they had not noticed before, by touring "Ichikawa City's outstanding landscape resources" that the students themselves had found as checkpoints.
The award ceremony was held on Monday, March 19th, and Chairman of the Board Harada Yoshinaka, Professor Nishio Jun of Faculty of Service Innovation from DINING SERVICE DESIGN LAB, and Noboru Fukasawa (graduated from Faculty of Service Innovation in March 2018) received the award certificate from Ichikawa City Deputy Mayor Sato Naomi.
Dining Service Design Lab will hold the 3rd "Photo Rogue in Ichikawa" on Saturday, March 31st. Through this event and other events, our university aims to continue to be an educational and research center open to the local community.
