Recruiting participants for "Dementia Supporter Training Course" (12/4)
Society/Community
November 2, 2018
Dementia is a familiar issue that can affect anyone.
With the cooperation of the Community Support Division of the Welfare Department of Ichikawa City, our university will be holding a Dementia Supporter Training Course. This course is taken together with students during regular classes, but is also open to the general public.
According to a survey by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the number of elderly people with dementia is expected to reach a maximum of 7.3 million by 2025, when all of the baby boomer generation will be 75 years or older, accounting for approximately one in five elderly people. Dementia is a familiar issue that can affect anyone.
The government has been running the "Dementia Awareness and Community Building Campaign" to encourage everyone to support people with dementia and their families and create communities where everyone can live comfortably. The "Dementia Supporter Caravan," part of the campaign, aims to increase the number of dementia supporters who understand dementia and look after people with dementia and their families, and to develop towns where people can live safely with the help of citizens.
In this course, you will learn specific ways to interact with people with dementia through lectures and DVDs. We hope that this course will give as many people as possible the hints to become supporters of people with dementia and their families and to play an active role in the community.
