The "CUC x SDGs Complete Understanding Project 2022 (Advance)" was held from October 26, 2022 to March 16, 2023 (a total of six sessions), with 26 students from grades 1 to 3 participating.

The "CUC x SDGs Understanding Project" aims to deepen knowledge and understanding of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), learn about the efforts of society and companies through corporate interviews, and cultivate talent who can think about and act on social issues as if they were their own concerns.
The Advance course is an output-focused course that utilizes the knowledge gained in the input-focused Basic course held from August to September 2022 and provides advanced suggestions for taking concrete action.

The students were divided into five groups and came up with plans to "make the SDGs a personal concern for students and faculty at our university, and take concrete action across the university." On March 16th, the final lecture, the "CUC x SDGs Challenge Contest - Student-inspired! Think of actions for CUC to achieve the 17 SDGs!" was held, and the students gave presentations to a panel of judges including Chairman of the Board and President of the university.

The Grand Prize and Excellence Prize winners were selected based on their analysis of the theme, creativity, feasibility, impact, and presentation. The Grand Prize winner proposed the "Waku-Waku SDGs Festa," which aims to create opportunities for interaction between students and citizens. In collaboration with various student groups at our university that are working on the SDGs, the project aims to have Ichikawa citizens "play, eat, and enjoy the SDGs!" at Chiba University of Commerce. In addition to the presentation materials, they also created leaflets for posters and workshops, and were recognized for their highest feasibility. Preparations are underway for the "Waku-Waku SDGs Festa," with the goal of realizing it in 2023.

Student comments

Through this project, I was able to learn anew about the SDGs initiatives being carried out at the university. Because it was a long-term course lasting about seven months, it was difficult to keep all the members motivated, but it was important that each person actively and enjoyably make suggestions and honestly communicate their thoughts to the other members. There are very few opportunities to actually realize the "Exciting SDGs Festa" that we proposed, so I would like to make it an event that allows more people to see the SDGs as something that concerns them personally.

After hearing from companies, we realized that the original plan was difficult to realize, so we changed it to installing a water server to reduce plastic waste on campus. We had a hard time coming up with ideas and putting the plan together, and many things did not go as we had hoped. However, I think we were able to acquire the ability to take action and speak up. In the future, we would like to use this experience to work hard in the student group we are currently involved in and in our job search.
