We ask parents, alumni, and all other related parties for your understanding and support of this new, future-oriented educational system.
Since its founding, Chiba University of Commerce (hereinafter referred to as "our university") has always strived to create new value, with the educational philosophy of cultivating "chidoka", highly ethical leaders who can adapt to the times through practical education.
Our school was founded in 1928, the year before the Great Depression. Doctor of Literature Endo Ryukichi, who was concerned by the trend of the time of single-mindedly pursuing profits, lamented that "the decline of business morality today is extremely chilling," and established Sugamo Higher Commercial School, the predecessor of our school, with the founding spirit of "cultivating business morality."
Starting out with only the Faculty of Commerce, our university has established new faculties and departments in anticipation of changing times and social issues, and has grown to its current structure of five faculties and seven departments in 2015. While each faculty offers a thorough study of theory, it also provides numerous opportunities for practical learning in collaboration with companies and local communities, and offers daily learning worthy of the name "practical studies."
In addition, in 2019, we launched the "Foundation Education" which is a common curriculum for all faculties, focusing on first-year education, as a foundation for the specialized knowledge and skills that can be learned in each faculty. The purpose of the "Foundation Education" is to build a foundation for learning as a student of our university by acquiring a high sense of ethics and a wide range of knowledge.
In recent years, the socio-economic environment surrounding universities has been changing rapidly, with a decline in the 18-year-old population, rapid developments in information technology, environmental issues such as climate change, and the advancement of globalization, but it goes without saying that the most important thing for a university is how to nurture students with the right mindset. In this rapidly changing era ahead, it is clear that we will not be able to keep up with the changing environment if we remain satisfied with the status quo, so we have decided that each and every faculty member will face up to this issue, think together about how we can develop our practical education, which is the philosophy of our university, into a future-oriented one and send more "chidoka" (people who understand the way of life) out into society, and what kind of research and education system is necessary to achieve this, and move forward with a major transformation toward 2025.
In this educational reform, we will continue to base our education on the founding spirit of "practical learning," while also emphasizing the importance of rapidly developing and time-changing information technology, sustainability, which means the sustainable development of society and the economy, which is a global issue, trust, which is born from the ethics that are the basis for how we should act as members of society, and the global perspective on social and economic issues, in any field, in the coming age. We will provide more advanced learning (information, global, career, etc.) as advanced programs.
Our university will respond flexibly to changes in the socio-economic environment, and will restructure its educational and organizational structure to move forward with change. We would appreciate your continued support for Chiba Gakuen and Chiba University of Commerce University of Commerce.

Department of Economics 150 students in each year
Department of Policy Informatics 150 students in each year - Faculty of Service Innovation
Department of Service Innovation 230 students in each year - Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
Department of Humanities and Social Sciences 230 students in each year
Starting also in 2025, the education hitherto carried out by the Faculty of Global Studies will transform into a new, university-wide program for nurturing globally-minded individuals, making full use of the knowledge and experience fostered by the Faculty of Global Studies, which means no new students will be accepted in the Faculty of Global Studies from 2025.
CUC assures all students, including those entering the university in 2024, that the faculty and staff of the university will maintain the high quality and environment of its education, providing the best possible support for the students' academic studies, campus life, and career choice as they have always been doing.
CUC asks the families of the students, graduates, and others to understand this new, future-oriented reorganization and continue to give us their support.
Ever since it was founded on the principle of nurturing, through practical education, chidoka, individuals with high ethical standards, to meet the needs of society, the Chiba University of Commerce has continued to create new values.
The Chiba University of Commerce was founded in 1928, the year before the Great Depression. Dr. Ryukichi Endo, Doctor of Literature, alarmed by the trend of seeking profit only and feeling strongly ethical that the trend had to be countered, founded the Sugamo High School of Commerce, the predecessor of the Chiba University of Commerce, with the founding spirit of nurturing businesspeople with high standards.
Starting with a single faculty, the Faculty of Commerce, the university has continued to add faculties and departments to meet the changing needs of society and its issues, to develop into a university with 5 Faculties and 7 Departments by 2015. Each faculty offers a solid foundation of the study of theory while, at the same time, placing emphasis on putting theory into practice by providing, in collaboration with local businesses and communities, numerous opportunities for students to learn through "practical education."
To support the special knowledge and skills to be acquired in the faculties, the Platform for Arts and Sciences was established in 2019 to provide a curriculum common to all faculties, mostly for first-year ethical students. The purpose of the Platform is to form the foundation of the students' studies by nurturing students with high standards and broad, diverse knowledge of the liberal arts.
The socio-economic environment surrounding universities is changing at a very fast pace, including the decreasing population of 18-year-olds, the rapid development of information technology, environmental issues such as climate change, and accelerating globalization. Be that as it may, the most important task of a university continues to be the kind of students it nurtures. In a rapidly changing world, those who are content with the status quo cannot keep up with the changing environment. How can we transform our education into a more future-oriented one, how can we send out more ethically-minded individuals into the world, what kind of studies or systems are needed for that—at CUC, we decided that each and every one of the faculty and staff tackle these challenges as their own in making the transformation towards 2025.
This reorganization will continue to make our founding sprit of "practical education" the basis of our education, and at the same time, prepare our students for the world today by placing importance on the following: acquisition of ethical skills to navigate the rapidly developing Information Technology, contribution to the socio-economic Sustainability of the world, high standards which will earn the Trust of society, and a Global outlook at the issues facing us. To, that end, we will provide state-of-the-art learning in those areas in our advanced program.
CUC will remain flexible in dealing with the social, economic, environmental changes of society, and we are certain this reorganization will enable us to better deal with those changes. We ask you to give us your continuing support.
