On September 15th, the Konodai Consortium, chaired by our university President, held a Disaster Prevention Day event to discuss disaster prevention in the Konodai area of Ichikawa City.

The Konodai Consortium brings together educational institutions and medical institutions in the area, exchanging ideas regularly and working to collaborate with each other, with the aim of creating a safe and secure town, raising disaster prevention awareness, and revitalizing the local area.
Last year's Disaster Prevention Day event was well received, so this year's event is being held for the second time.

On the day, about 250 people participated, including about 90 fourth graders from Ichikawa Municipal Konodai Elementary School, students, and members of the Konodai Consortium. Various disaster prevention events were held, including an explanation of a free disaster prevention app that provides real-time damage forecasts for earthquakes and floods, as well as simulation experiences and escape drills based on actual disasters.

Student comments

Last year, I also participated in a survival camp and experienced starting a fire. This year, I participated in splitting firewood and making chopsticks, and learned that different types of wood require different strengths to process. I was able to learn in a fun way again this time. I would like to use the knowledge I learned this time in my own camping trips so that I can think for myself and act on my own in the event of a disaster.

Compared to other universities, I felt that our university lacked information on the installation of disaster prevention kits in elevators and disaster prevention measures. I would like to use SNS and other means to share information with students who are not familiar with paper-based "disaster prevention manuals." At the presentation booth, many visitors asked questions about technical terms, so I would like to be more careful about my word choice in the future.
