On Tuesday, October 30th, approximately 40 young people from Japan and 10 Southeast Asian countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, and Indonesia, visited our school as part of the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (※), which is jointly implemented by the governments of Japan and the 10 ASEAN member countries.

The participants in this program are engaged in discussions and research on the theme of "use of affordable, reliable and sustainable energy," and were interested in our university's efforts to become a "100% renewable energy university," which led to this visit.

On the day, lectures were given President Harashina Yukihiko (theme: SDGs and impact assessment), Science Science Academy Special Visiting Visiting Lecturer Teshima Susumu (theme: Specific circumstances towards a 100% renewable energy university), and Science Academy Special Visiting Associate Professor Tanaka Shinichiro (theme: Energy policy and regional economy).

In addition, there were presentations on the activities of President seminar students, who are researching "environment and energy" while conducting various energy-creation and energy-saving activities with the aim of becoming a 100% natural energy university, a tour of the solar panels installed on the roof of Building 1, and a lunch meeting between students, faculty and staff from the university and youth participants in the "Ship for Southeast Asian Youth" project. The event also included a lunch meeting between students, faculty and staff of the University and the youth participating in the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth project.

Through this exchange, students from our university and young people participating in the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program exchanged opinions on issues related to sustainable energy use, which appears to have further deepened their understanding of the environmental field.

*The Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program is a program that develops young people who can demonstrate leadership in the international community by having approximately 320 young people from Japan and Southeast Asian countries board the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth, living together on board, and engaging in various exchange activities on board and in the countries they visit. In the 2018 (45th) program, the participants will visit Japan and four Southeast Asian countries.
