Professor Sakai Shinobu of Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration has published a paper titled "Promoting plurilingualism throughout language classrooms in East Asia: Implications from EFL research in Japan" as chapter 8 in "The Asian EFL Classroom Issues, Challenges, and Future Expectations" published by Routledge, a major publisher in the UK, the home of English language education.

This paper is based on the content of the lecture that Professor Professor is the only one from Japan.

In this paper, Professor Sakai explores the possibility of promoting multiple languages through language classrooms in East Asian countries in order to establish and maintain good relations in East Asia. He believes that learners should be encouraged to study Asian languages in addition to their mother tongue in order to improve communication with people from neighboring countries, and that such a policy would promote intercultural understanding, reduce prejudice, and foster common interests among the peoples of East Asia.
