The first batch of students held their graduation thesis presentation on Saturday, December 15, 2018. In Faculty of Global Studies, students work on their graduation research by integrating the liberal arts education, overseas experiences, and projects they have acquired up to that point. By receiving guidance from multiple faculty members, students aim to write their thesis with a multifaceted perspective. Research activities are carried out individually or in groups, and the results are compiled into a thesis for presentation.

The students conducted research by relating what they had learned over the course of a year through literature research, fieldwork, and questionnaires to their four years of study. The research topics were diverse, including tourism, inbound tourism, location tourism, the internationalization of Japanese sweets, and distribution. After the research presentations, critiques and awards were given, with the top prize going to "Dassai's V-shaped recovery is due to it becoming a national brand - lessons that local small and medium-sized enterprises (sake breweries) should take in the future." Many of the students were relating their research to their own post-graduation work, and it seemed that their graduation research was something they could use in the future.

I was able to learn one thing deeply through my graduation research. I started my research with the desire to spread sake to the world, and ultimately, I conducted my research with the desire to protect the sake industry. As I continued my research, I gradually found myself liking sake. I studied abroad in Scotland and learned the importance of doing research on my own. This experience came in handy, and I was able to visit Niigata and Ishikawa prefectures to conduct research for my graduation research. In my discussions with the master brewers, I was able to hear the real voices of the master brewers about the sake industry and sake brewing, which you can't get from the internet or books. Through my graduation research, I was reminded of the importance of doing research on my own.
