On March 25th, the student group SONE (hereinafter referred to as SONE) won the Excellence Award at the 2022 Next Generation SDGs Practice Contest.
The Next Generation SDGs Practice Contest is co-hosted by the Sustainability Human Resources Development Center of the Environmental Policy Research Institute of the Council of Environmental Local Governments and Social Action Company Inc., and awards student groups that have carried out practical activities to achieve the SDGs through on-site research, exchanges, volunteer experiences, and more.
Seven student groups participated in the contest held on January 30th, giving a 10-minute presentation on their activities, followed by a five-minute Q&A session. SONE gave a presentation on "Planning and Managing an Insulation Workshop" held in the summer of 2022. The judging was done by votes from companies, civic groups, and government officials who watched the presentations via Zoom and YouTube, and one Grand Prize, two Excellence Prizes, and four Encouragement Prizes were selected.
This is the first time that SONE's efforts have been recognized externally, so we are very happy. It is a chance to spread the word about SONE's activities and the insulation workshop, and we applied because we wanted to know what kind of SDGs efforts are being made at other universities. The insulation workshop was an initiative that was mainly approached within the university, but many other groups are taking on interesting initiatives that allow a wide range of generations to experience the SDGs in a fun way, and we would like to use them as a reference for our new energy-saving activities.
