A student from the Faculty of Policy and Information won the grand prize in the video category of the 24th Ichikawa Like! Video and Commercial Competition*, hosted by the Ichikawa Like! Video and Commercial Competition Executive Committee.
This was a citizen-participation competition with two categories: the "Video" category and the "Commercial" category. The challenge in the "Video" category, for which the Grand Prix was won this time, was to choose a theme of one's choosing and express it in a video of no more than 10 minutes.
The theme chosen by students studying video in the School of Policy and Information Studies was the "Mama Andon Festival," which takes place every summer at the local Mamayama Guhoji Temple in Ichikawa City. The project was planned and run primarily by students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at our university, and was created together with the citizens of Ichikawa. The work was created by interspersing drone footage of approximately 200 lanterns that fantastically illuminated the summer night, projection mapping using the Mamayama Guhoji Temple Soshido Hall as a screen, stage performances, and the smiles of local people.

This time, instead of dividing up the roles into director, cinematographer, and editor, each of the three members took a camera and filmed as they wished. We decided in advance to take as many shots as possible, and since the theme was festivals, we wanted to include many Japanese elements such as temples and torii gates. It was difficult to edit the footage that each of us had taken, deciding "which parts to use," "how to use them," and "what to cut," but we were able to capture a variety of footage, and by combining them, I think we were able to add depth to the footage. It's unbelievable that we won the Grand Prix in this first competition we entered, but we would like to hone our skills even more and try again in the future.
