The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) is an organization that runs a national scholarship program. It provides scholarships as "loans" or "grant" to students who are excellent in both character and academics, but who are unable to continue their studies due to financial reasons. When receiving a loan scholarship, choose the monthly amount with the understanding that you will be responsible for paying it back yourself, and lead an independent student life.
*This may change during your time at the school.

- Hiring (benefits) due to sudden change in household finances
If your household finances have changed suddenly due to unforeseen circumstances and you need assistance before the change in your income is reflected in your resident tax information, you may be eligible for a grant scholarship if you are able to confirm that you meet the requirements. (In principle, applications must be made within three months of the date of the sudden change.) If you are eligible, your tuition fees may be waived or reduced.
- Emergency (Type 1 Loan) / Emergency (Type 2 Loan) Recruitment
If the household has experienced a sudden change in financial situation due to the breadwinner losing his/her job, having an accident, getting ill, dying, or experiencing a disaster, and the household wishes to have their financial situation assessed based on the expected income after the sudden change, they will be eligible for support if it is confirmed that they meet the requirements. (The reason for the sudden change in financial situation must be within one year of the application.)
- * The main criteria for admission are academic performance and family finances. In addition, the application process is carried out every year based on these criteria. The condition is that a certain number of credits must be acquired each academic year.
Recruitment period
Applications are accepted twice a year, in April and September. Students who wish to receive a scholarship, whether they have made a reservation or are currently enrolled, must attend the information session. The dates of the information session will be announced in the materials distributed at the time of enrollment and on the CUC PORTAL.
Loan/grant period
The loan/grant period is from the month of acceptance to the end of the shortest period of study until graduation. However, loan scholarship recipients are required to complete renewal procedures every December or January. Scholarship continuation is subject to eligibility certification based on academic performance, and in the event of poor academic performance, students may lose their scholarship eligibility for both grant and loan scholarships. In addition, students accepted as grant scholarship recipients are required to submit an "Enrollment Report" every April.
In principle, the Japan Student Services Organization will review the support category related to the financial requirements of grant scholarship students by confirming local tax information using the My Number. The results of the review will be reflected from the October transfer, so the support amount (support category) may change or support may be suspended (stopped) after October.
Submitting a request for deferment of stay
Those who have previously received a scholarship and are continuing on to higher education, those who have declined (cancelled) a scholarship while enrolled, or those who have repeated a year after their loan expired can have the repayment deadline deferred (postponed) until their planned graduation by submitting a request for deferral of enrollment (notification of enrollment).
Please use Scholarnet Personal to submit a request for deferred enrollment. Please contact Student Division for the "school number" required for input.
Please note that those who fail to submit the above documents will not be granted a deferral of repayment while enrolled at university.
