Southern Cross University Spring Overseas Language Program 2017 Application Guidelines
1. Training Period
Thursday, February 8th, 2018 to Friday, February 23rd, 16 days (planned)
2. Training location
Southern Cross University (New South Wales, Australia)
3. Number of applicants
Approximately 10 people (minimum number of participants is 4)
4. Eligibility
(1) Undergraduate students enrolled in the 2017 academic year (International students must consult with us)
(2) Applicants must be proactive, cooperative, and in good health and have no problems living abroad.
5. Training Costs
Approx. 186,000 yen + airfare approx. 141,000 yen (estimated)
*As of September 26, 2017, calculated at 91.2 yen per Australian dollar
*Please note that training fees may change significantly due to fluctuations in exchange rates.
*For training fees, We plan to provide subsidies of up to 100,000 yen per person. However, if the number of grant recipients exceeds 10, the subsidy quota will be divided by the number of participants. Subsidies for studying abroad will be paid after you have participated in all pre- and post-study abroad training, orientations, presentations, and other events instructed by International Center, submitted all related documents by the deadline, and obtained a training completion certificate. If you fail to comply with any of these requirements, you will not receive any subsidy.
<What is included in the training fee>
(1) Tuition: Tuition, field trip fees
(2) Accommodation: Homestay fee (including three meals a day and transportation to and from the university for breakfast and dinner, homestay application fee included)
(3) Airfare: Economy class (including airport facility charges and local departure tax)
(4) Airport transfer fee: Transfer fee from the airport to Southern Cross University
<Not included in the training fee>
(1) Travel procedure fee: Passport acquisition and ETAS registration fee
(2) Overseas travel insurance: You must enroll in overseas travel insurance designated by the university.
(3) Transportation expenses: Local transportation expenses and round-trip transportation expenses from your home to Narita or Haneda airport
(4) Internet: Internet access fee at homestay (AUD 25)
(5) Personal expenses: pocket money, telephone charges, etc.
6. Credit Accreditation
Participants in the training will be given the designated credits if their training results are recognized through the submission of a training completion certificate (including a report card) and a report. However, credits will not be given to fourth-year students.
Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration: "Overseas Language Training I" or "Overseas Language Training II" 2 credits each
Faculty of Policy and Information Studies: "Overseas Foreign Language Training I" or "Overseas Foreign Language Training II" 2 credits each
Faculty of Service Innovation: "Overseas Training" 2 credits
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences: "Overseas Cultural Studies" 2 credits
Faculty of Global Studies: No credit transfer
7. Notes
(1) Driving (cars or motorcycles) is not permitted during the training period.
(2) One of the purposes of this training is to learn about Australian culture. Please make sure to prepare well in advance so that you can understand and adapt to the culture of the place you are visiting.
(3) This application guide is based on the contents of the 2016 academic year. Details of the schedule and participation fees will be announced at the final meeting.
(4) After your participation is confirmed, you will be required to attend pre- and post-training sessions, orientation, social gatherings, and TOEIC® tests organized by International Center Office. If you are absent without permission or fail to meet the deadlines for submitting documents, you may be asked to withdraw from the program.
(5) This training will be led by faculty and staff of our university. Please follow the instructions of the leaders and staff of Southern Cross University on-site. In addition, since this training will be conducted jointly with students from other universities, please act with the awareness that you are a student of Chiba University of Commerce.

10. Application Method and Deadline
Please fill out and submit the application form available at International Center Office (1st floor of the main building). Applicants will be interviewed to determine whether they are able to complete immigration procedures on their own and have sufficient English proficiency to live in a homestay.
