In 1938, Dr. Endo Ryukichi, founder of our university, built a training center called "Seiseishu" in Saginuma, Tsudanuma Town, Chiba Prefecture, where he compiled his own research system and symbolized his unique philosophy of "Seiseishugi." The following year, he erected a "Seiseishu" monument to clarify its purpose.
The inscription on the monument begins with the Greek word pantarai (everything is in flux), followed by the English translation of the word "vitalism."
The inscription on the back reads in Latin and English the reason for carving the monument, and in Hebrew it reads "Written by Senjiro's son (Ryukichi)."
The "raw-lifeism" engraved on this monument is what is known as Endowism, and it is the origin of the "respect for practical learning" that is the founding purpose of our university.
After that, the whereabouts of the monument became unknown, but in September 1979, it was discovered that it still exists in Ogura Park in Mimomi, Narashino City.
This historic "Seiseishi" monument was discovered in the year of the 70th anniversary of the founding of Chiba University of Commerce, and was relocated and erected on the campus of Chiba University of Commerce from Narashino City.
The "Seiseiji" monument is located in the flowerbed in front of Building No. 6, also known as the Logos Building, next to the main entrance of Chiba University of Commerce main building.
This location is on the right hand side of the university's main street as you face Library, making it the central location of the university and the entrance to the Logos Building.
Dr. Takayoshi Endo states the following at the beginning of his "Vitalist Philosophy":
"When you look at everything through colored glasses, you see that it is all the same color. When you look at everything through human eyes, there is nothing that is not human. There is will. Therefore, you see everything with will. There is nothing that is not willful. All things are in a state of flux, ready to sprout forth. There is knowledge. You see everything with knowledge. There is nothing that is not intellectual. It can also be seen that the universe is ruled by Logos. There are emotions. There is nothing that is not emotional."
- ※ Logos: (1) Words, meaning, logic, and reason. (2) Concepts, theories, ideas, and other theoretical activities. (3) The rational law that permeates all things.
