Students open American retro cafe on campus for two days only
Faculty of Service Innovation
January 15, 2018
Twenty-five students from the Community Cafe Project, who are taking the Faculty of Service Innovation 's regular course "Project Practice 3B" (instructor: Associate Professor), will open a good old 1950s American retro-style cafe called "CAFE 50's DINER" on campus for two days only.
We aim to operate a café that is conscious of providing high-quality service that goes beyond just providing drinks and food, and that can build a lasting community with local people.
Anyone can use it, so please come and visit us.
Key Points
- Students will gain experience in planning, scheduling, product development, purchasing, supplying and selling, laws and regulations, public relations, operations and sales management, etc., and will learn the process of creating new services by identifying and examining the problems that arise at each stage.
- The booth decoration will be provided by MOONEYES, a popular auto parts and accessories brand known worldwide for its classic American customization items such as hot rods. In addition to the company's branded goods, the event will also feature a jukebox, a symbol of the 1950s.
- As part of the promotion of ethical consumption, which is consumption behavior that takes people, society, and the environment into consideration, fair trade coffee will be provided as a product for sale. Private brand products from AEON Co., Ltd., which promotes ethical consumption, will be used. Students themselves will raise awareness of the importance and necessity of ethical consumption among each individual consumer.
Recommended points of "CAFE 50's DINER"
- We planned to combine "diners," the popular restaurants that have spread across America and are visited by a wide variety of people, with the Community Café Project's goal of providing a "place of relaxation that fosters interaction both inside and outside the university." We planned a cozy café where people of all ages can enjoy the music and fashion of the 1950s, the golden age of diners.
- Based on the theme of "American Retro," which is currently popular among young people, the space will be decorated in pop colors such as red and yellow to create a fun, lively space that will make you want to take photos during this season when it tends to be dark.
- In addition to fair trade coffee, we offer a menu of beloved American diner items such as hot lemonade, cola, hamburgers, and muffins.
