Strengthening learning through sports business! American football team "OBIC Seagulls" becomes official supporter

Faculty of Service Innovation

June 6, 2018

We are pleased to announce that Faculty of Service Innovation has signed a basic agreement with the Obic Seagulls (OFC Co., Ltd.), an American football team that belongs to the X League of Japanese amateur American Football, to become an official supporting company for the faculty's studies.
Through this agreement, the team will learn about sports business through American football, which has a smaller number of games played per year than other professional sports, and will develop the ability to create new value, set goals in team management, and plan and execute solutions to these goals.
In addition, Japanese American football players are usually businessmen who work for their respective companies. By taking advantage of this characteristic, students can communicate directly with the players and gain a broad perspective not only on sports business but also on various other industries.

Joining baseball, basketball, and soccer for a broader learning experience

Faculty of Service Innovation has signed partnership agreements with three professional sports teams - the Chiba Lotte Marines, the Chiba Jets Funabashi, and the JEF United Ichihara Chiba - and offers project-based regular courses in which students learn about sports business, such as organizational management, marketing, and the planning and management of sports events.
The Obic Seagulls are a member of the KEIYO TEAM 6, a coalition of six teams along the JR Keiyo Line, including the three teams mentioned above. This is a powerful team that has won the Japanese championship seven times. Based in Narashino City, the team is also engaged in local exchanges and American football promotion activities as part of its "hometown activities."

Acquire skills that can be used in the business world

The regular course "JEF Chiba Project" already has Masashi Wakita, assistant general manager of the Obic Seagulls football team, as Specially Appointed Lecturer. Last year, under Wakita's guidance, the project planned and implemented a bus tour to watch a game in collaboration with HIS Co., Ltd., and experienced business practices through business negotiations and sales.
