2024 Study Abroad Results
Period: September to December 2023, March to July 2024
During my 10-month study abroad in the "Double Degree Program," I shared the good times and the bad with my classmates and experienced many things. The memory that left the biggest impression on me was when I went on a trip to Beijing with Chinese friends I made there after the entire study abroad program was over. During the trip, we all went to famous tourist spots such as the Great Wall, and tried soybean soup, a traditional dish that even Beijingers either love or hate. Through our trip to Beijing, I had the opportunity to experience and deepen my understanding of different cultures.
After studying abroad, my attitude towards learning Chinese has changed significantly. Before studying abroad, I was simply studying to meet the requirements for studying abroad. However, after studying abroad, I naturally became more motivated to learn Chinese because I wanted to have deeper exchanges with local friends and experienced the joy of being able to communicate in Chinese. As a result, I was able to improve my level from HSK level 4 to HSK level 5 and deepen my confidence in my Chinese ability.
At the same time, my impression of China has changed significantly. Previously, I had a negative image of China, influenced by media reports. However, when I actually lived in China, I experienced the warmth of the people and realized that it is a more open society than I had imagined. I was particularly moved by the friendly attitude of the people at school and in the local community, which dispelled my preconceived ideas about China. This study abroad experience was a valuable opportunity for me to experience the joy of language learning and deepen my understanding of different cultures. It also reminded me of the importance of visiting places in person, and I would like to continue to take on new challenges proactively in my future life.
