What is the distinctive university education support program?
Chiba University of Commerce was selected for the "Distinctive University Education Support Program" in 2005. The "Distinctive University Education Support Program (Distinctive GP)", launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2003, selects outstanding and distinctive initiatives from among various initiatives that contribute to the improvement of university education, and by providing information on the selected cases to society at large and financial support, it aims to provide an incentive for each university and faculty member to work on improving education through national, public and private universities, as well as to serve as a reference for the initiatives of other universities and promote the revitalization of higher education.
Overview of the initiative
Nowadays, the perspective of USR (University Social Responsibility) is important for universities. The highest priority issue for USR is "to foster many students with a strong will and a strong environmental mind who will pass on a healthy earth to the next generation, and to send them out into society." Our university's "environmental education initiatives" are a place to put this into practice. Our environmental education is characterized by "thorough collaboration between the university and students." The entire university supports student-led ISO14001 certification, and based on this, we promote "practical education" centered on experiential learning through social contribution, such as students teaching environmental education to local elementary and junior high schools. The Faculty of Policy and Information has established an "environmental creation" course, and Library has newly established a corner for environment-related books to enrich and expand it. We have created an environment where all students can always be aware of environmental issues and learn. The Graduate School of Policy and Information has established environment-related subjects such as environmental management, environmental assessment, and environmental design, and environmental research is being conducted throughout the faculty and graduate school.
