On September 7th and 8th, we held "Leaders Camp 2024" at a training facility in Hayama Town, Kanagawa Prefecture, with the aim of learning about leadership.
Faculty of Service Innovation has a regular course called "Project Practice," in which students plan and execute 10 different project activities. Students from the second to fourth year take this course, and while dividing up roles, they plan, negotiate with companies, publicize, and even organize events.
The students who play a central role in each project must bring together students of different years and motivations to achieve their goals. This time, in addition to sharing and resolving the concerns each leader has, the training included a more systematic learning about team management and the training to equip them with "leadership skills."
On the first day, participants learned mainly about what a leader should be, his/her way of thinking, and theories in the "Leadership Lecture" given by Mr. Yasuyuki Ishii, Director of Faculty of Service Innovation. After that, the participants were divided into 8 teams and came up with a plan for "an event to maintain and improve the motivation of the students (about 200 people) enrolled in the project practice for their activities.
On the second day, each group presented the plans they had come up with on the first day, and the top three teams, judged by faculty members, received awards. The students learned from the graduates that their experiences in project activities would be useful in the real world and how to be prepared as a member of society.
- I learned the mindset and focus a leader needs, and it made me want to work even harder as a leader in the future.
- I had time to face myself concretely about being a leader. I was glad to learn perspectives, opinions, and management methods that I didn't have from people on other projects.
- It was a great opportunity to interact with people who are active on the front lines of the project, and I was able to learn a lot about ideas, how to organize things, how to think, and so on.
- With advice from seniors and graduates, I learned how to give presentations and how to answer questions. I have more respect for my seniors and graduates, as well as leadership skills. I feel like I have found my ideal self. I would like to participate again next year.
