10月2日～30日、日米フルブライト交流事業における2023年度のフルブライトスペシャリストであるネブラスカ大学のDeepak Khazanchi氏を招へいし、10月10日と20日に教職員向け特別セミナーを実施しました。
10月10日は2つのトピック"Swift Trust and Sensemaking in Fast Response Virtual Teams"と"Using Mixed Methods: An Introduction and Insights From Three Research Projects"について講演があり、教職員12名が参加しました。本学若手教員から質問が多くあり有意義なセミナーとなりました。
10月20日は全教職員を対象としたオンラインセミナー"Strategies for Effective e-learning: Theoretical Foundations and Best Practices"を開催しました。e-learningを実施する上での課題や効果などを改めて学ぶことのできる機会となりました。
Dr. Deepak Khazanchi of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, one of the three recipients of the Japan-US Fulbright Specialist Program 2023, was invited to give special seminars at the Chiba University of Commerce (CUC) on October 10 and 20. These seminars were a part of his stay as a Fulbright Specialist at CUC, from October 2 to 30.
On October 10, Dr. Khazanchi addressed two topics: "Swift Trust and Sensemaking in Fast Response Virtual Teams" and "Using Mixed Methods: An Introduction and Insights from Three Research Projects." The seminar was attended by 12 people, including informatics experts from CUC's faculty and staff. It proved highly engaging, particularly during the Q & A session, when many insightful inquiries were raised.
The second seminar on October 20, open to all faculty and staff, focused on "Strategies for Effective e-learning: Theoretical Foundations and Best Practices." This session provided an invaluable opportunity for faculty members to explore the advantages and challenges of e-learning, enhancing their understanding and approach to online education.

フルブライトスペシャリストとして、千葉商科大学に滞在しているネブラスカ大学のDeepak Khazanchi教授によるテクニカルセミナーを実施した。主に情報系の教員6名が参加し、ハイブリッドで実施した。トピックは、以下の2つである。
- Swift Trust and Sensemaking in Fast Response Virtual Teams
- Using Mixed Methods: An Introduction and Insights From Three Research Projects
1のトピックは、災害などの緊急事態に陥ったときに、如何にして素早く信頼感を醸成するか(Fast-response virtual teams (FRVTs)) という点に着目した研究であり、情報学のみならず社会学の観点から学際的に評価・分析を行っている。中国の学生を対象とし、Weiboを活用した実験についても紹介があり、FRVTの重要性が示された。質疑応答においては、類似の目的で、日本側の教員が実施しているゲーミング手法を用いた実験も紹介され、また、FRVTにおける教育や文化の違いが与える影響の重要性についても議論があった。今後の日本側でも同様の実験を実施するなど、コラボレーションの可能性を広げるレクチャーであった。
2のトピックは、学際的な研究を進めるためのモデルについての紹介であり、昨今、研究が異分野融合となっていることを鑑みると、極めて重要な示唆が共有されたレクチャーであった。
★Deepak教授(ネブラスカ大学)特別セミナー

同じくDeepak教授による国府台学会特別セミナー(オンライン開催)である。これはCUCの全教員を対象としたセミナーであり、各分野・方面の教職員20名ほどの参加を得た。トピックは、Strategies for Effective e-learning: Theoretical Foundations and Best Practices であり、本学でも重要な課題であるe-learningを効果的に実施する方法等ついて、理論の面からの分析(pedagogical approaches)やベストプラクティスの紹介があった。レクチャーは、非常によく整理された内容であり、e-learningを実施する上での課題や効果などを改めて学ぶことのできる機会となった。質疑応答では、e-learningの講義を実施している教員の負担が大きいことや、どのように動機づけすべきかといった課題に対して、Rewardやインセンティブを与えることの重要性が示唆され、また、如何に学生を飽きさせずにe-learning講義を実施するかの具体的なアイディアも示された。セミナー後も質疑のやり取りがあり、教員と学生のコミュニケーションを支援し、学生のエンゲージメントを高めるためのルーブリックの活用などについての知識も共有された。
FRTV talk:
The FRVT talk was attended by a small group of faculty and staff. I have great hopes for this topic and would love to extend the work in collaboration with interested CUC researchers. Whether it is to develop a simulation or to replicate the research in the Japanese cultural context, there are many avenues to explore further. This can only be feasible if some early career faculty and/or graduate students at CUC would be interested in taking on the problem for their research. There is also enormous potential to apply for the US-Japan research funding in collaboration with interested CUC faculty, Tokei University faculty and Shizuoka University (Hamamatsu) faculty in informatics. I also feel that there are other areas of joint interest that could be developed for collaboration between rising CUC researchers and UNO faculty that were not explored as yet.
elearning talk:
The elearning talk was conducted on Zoom and attracted several audience members. It was difficult to gauge engagement and receptiveness of the topic since most people had videos off. In retrospect, I would have preferred a more interactive session with sharing of questions/challenges, ideas, and potential solutions/practices. However, the questions asked were very substantive and interesting. I think that there is an opportunity to develop pedagogical research in collaboration with CUC faculty/researchers who are interested. It would be great to develop experimental research to assess efficacy of elearning and better understand which of the elearning outcomes (learner satisfaction, engagement, or interaction) are impacted by the pedagogical approaches we take to conduct elearning classes at CUC. It may also provide some insight into which practices, technologies/tools, and tasks are amenable to effective elearning. I also am open to collaboratively exploring the development of training workshops for CUC faculty that help them improve the efficacy of elearning.
