Yumi Saito
(Graduated from Chitose High School in Hokkaido)

I applied to a wide range of industries including hotels, IT, funerals, bridal, and real estate. I was offered a position at Hospitality Operations Co., Ltd., which operates and consults on hotels, resorts, and restaurants. I obtained MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) while I was in school.

Returning to basics and becoming a hospitality company

I had always dreamed of working in the hotel industry, ever since I stayed at a hotel with a friend and the people there were so kind to me. I had only vaguely wanted to work in the hotel industry, but after entering university and studying a wide range of liberal arts and languages at Faculty of Global Studies, I began to feel that there were many possibilities and thought, "I could be anything!" So, in order to broaden my possibilities during my job search, I decided not to limit myself to the hotel industry, but to try my hand at various industries such as IT, funerals, bridal, and real estate.

Among all the options, I had a strong desire to interact directly with individual customers, and after interacting with people from the company at company information sessions and interviews, I felt that the atmosphere there was such that even new employees felt comfortable voicing their opinions, so I decided to go to Hospitality Operations Co., Ltd., which operates a wide range of businesses including hotels and resorts.

Hospitality with "the best fun"

The good thing about Faculty of Global Studies is the close relationship between teachers and students. It's very reassuring to know that there is someone nearby that you can consult with immediately if something happens. In addition, the bonds are strong not only with teachers, but also among students. At Faculty of Global Studies, all undergraduate students participate in an overseas training program called the "Overseas Freshman Camp (Overseas Cultural Training)" immediately after enrollment, and the bonds they were able to deepen with their classmates during this training had a positive impact on their student life thereafter.

短期留学

Participating in the "Short-term Overseas Training Program" in Australia was also a good experience. Wanting to give back to my host family who had been so kind to me, I made some sushi rolls and served them to them. They were very happy and even asked me to make more sushi afterwards (laughs). Also, the people I met in the choir club I participated in with my host family saw the news about the earthquake that had hit Chiba Prefecture while I was in Australia and were worried about me as if it were their own problem. The people I met in Australia gave me the push I needed to enter the hospitality industry.

After graduation, I would like to work at the company where I will be employed and provide hospitality to people from overseas. Since I want to experience a variety of fields, my current first choice is the resort business. I would like to work with my colleagues to create events that will give the guests at the resort a "great time of fun."

Classes that were helpful in job hunting

"International Liberal Arts V (Career)" Yohei Tsunemi, Full-time Lecturer

I found it very useful to receive specific instruction on how to analyze myself and how to write an application form and resume, as well as to participate in group discussion role-playing and learn practical tips for job hunting selection process.
