Shigeo Imai Seminar (Research on Japan's Bridal Industry and Services)

All seminar members will research, think, discuss, and deepen their understanding of all industries and services related to "bridal (marriage)" by examining their characteristics, the changes they have undergone, and how they will grow and decline in the future.

Research Themes

The market size of the bridal industry in Japan is huge, estimated at 3-5 trillion yen. Moreover, wedding halls exist all over the country, and the bridal industry is developed extensively around them. This is a phenomenon unique to Japan, with no parallels in the world.
What are the characteristics of Japan's bridal industry, what changes has it undergone, and how will it grow and decline in the future? There are many books out there that explain the bridal industry, but they are all superficial explanations, or they just force their opinions on people, and they do not reveal the full picture of what the bridal industry is. In this seminar, we will research, think, and discuss with other seminar members to shed light on the bridal industry and services.

Activities

Service Creation Award Application
Seven teams of second and third year students applied for the "2020 Service Creation Awards." The theme of the application was "SDGs x Official Supporter Companies x Bridal Services." After each team researched the services offered by the 60 official supporter companies, they proposed bridal services with original ideas, including improving existing services and developing new services. Four of the seven teams made it to the final round, but unfortunately none of them won an award.

Seminar camp
A seminar camp will be held jointly by second and third year students. The event will be planned and managed by third year students. The camp will include recreational activities and social gatherings for the purpose of promoting interaction.

Graduation Thesis Presentation
This is a camp-style presentation where fourth-year students who have submitted their graduation theses present the contents of their thesis to their fellow seminar students. In order to present the submitted graduation thesis in an easy-to-understand manner, the contents of the thesis must be almost perfectly organized in one's head. A 20,000-word work must be explained concisely in about 10 minutes. Presentation skills as well as documentation skills are cultivated.
