Tsuyoshi Ohshita Seminar (Research on Distribution, Physical Distribution and Logistics)

By proposing solutions to companies, you can combine what you have learned from "academics" and "activities" with what you have learned from "companies"!
To develop people who can link facts and theory, think for themselves, and take action!

Research Themes

Currently, Japan's distribution and logistics sectors are providing advanced services. However, issues such as labor shortages and environmental issues are becoming problems. What can companies do to create better services while responding to these external factors? In order to tackle these issues, it is necessary to understand social perspectives such as "distribution theory" and "logistics theory."
We will then study together about "logistics," which is becoming increasingly important in corporate management strategies, and discuss how to respond to various modern issues.

Activities

Activities Introduction Seminar activities are now in their fifth year and we have undertaken various initiatives. The main activities carried out in 2024 are as follows:

[2nd Year]
The group work focused on the theme of creating new services and reducing waste for the BtoB mail order service "Kaunet" presented by KOKUYO Supply Logistics Co., Ltd. The final report was given at THE CAMPUS, the showroom at KOKUYO's headquarters in Shinagawa, and valuable feedback was received from the company's executives.

[3rd grade]
In the spring semester, we considered measures to increase sales at the Co-op store on the first floor of Building 3. We actually implemented some of the proposals at the store and measured their effectiveness. In the fall semester, we formed an online team with a third-year student from Kyoto University of Advanced Science and made a proposal to Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha for reducing and effectively utilizing packaging materials used in marine transport, and received feedback from the company's project team.

In order to address the issues that companies are currently facing, the seminar activities change every year. Distribution and logistics require diverse perspectives, so we try various approaches such as business management, marketing, and service creation.
Through this program, I hope to develop presentation and problem-solving skills.

I think the appeal of the Oshita seminar is the way it interacts with people from companies. When working on assignments presented by company staff in group work, students don't just think about it on their own, but actually get advice and feedback from company staff, which allows them to think at a higher level and also leads to their own growth. Another attraction is that it's not just classroom learning, but also the opportunity to actually learn on-site, such as by visiting logistics facilities. In addition to learning, students plan events and events together, and this year we held a seminar camp, so the seminar activities are student-centered. Since I joined this seminar, my daily school life has been fulfilling.

I didn't have a chance to learn about distribution in detail until I entered university, and although I used it in my private life, I had never thought of it academically, so it was hard for me to imagine what it was. However, by joining the Oshita seminar and with the cooperation of people from companies, I was able to gain a deeper understanding through various experiences. Distribution requires more than just knowledge; it also requires marketing and service creation, and there are many different ways of thinking about it, such as not just transporting goods, but creating new ways of distribution and more convenient services, which I find interesting! I also think it's attractive that I can work on corporate issues that allow me to deepen my thoughts and understanding through these activities!
