A seminar to develop lifelong connections and human skills through practical application of policies and research on revitalizing the local economy and industry
Research Themes
In Japan, where the population continues to decline due to an aging population and low birthrate, there are many difficult social and local issues, such as promoting the SDGs, achieving carbon neutrality, and responding to the Society 5.0 era. There is a need to view these issues as "regional resources" and "opportunities" and to have the ability to create new value, policies, projects, and businesses.
To that end, this seminar aims to cultivate skills that will be useful throughout one's life through practical learning, activities, and research. Students will form their own hypotheses and ideas through analysis of data from RESAS and other sources, and research of information on the local government and private sector. Next, based on knowledge of collaboration between the government and private sector (companies and regions), local economies, and industrial revitalization, students will study advanced initiatives and examples, while coming up with ideas for creating sustainable policies, projects, and businesses for the future. Finally, students will jump into the field, observe the situation, recognize the gap between what they have thought so far, and work to complete optimal proposals (solutions) tailored to the "local characteristics."
There are over 1,700 local governments and the tens of thousands of settlements and communities within them, all of which are diverse and have great potential. Utilizing these abundant resources to create a sustainable system of value creation and reproduction stimulates intellectual curiosity and independent motivation in the same way that learning theories and theories does.
Let's create an interesting seminar life and activities by helping and having fun together with fellow seminar students, alumni, and local stakeholders.
