Satoshi Mitamura Seminar (Money and Finance)

Hone your problem-finding, problem-solving, and logical thinking skills through the study of finance!

Research Themes

Finance is an academic field that deals with various areas involving the flow of money, such as corporate fund raising and investment activities (corporate finance) and personal asset management (financial planning). In this study, you will mainly learn the theory of finance, which consists of corporate finance theory, capital market theory, and securities investment theory. This content will lead to career advancement for those who want to work in financial institutions (banks, securities companies, insurance companies) in the future, or who want to work in accounting or clerical work at various companies.
As part of their activities, most of the students in our seminar obtain the qualification of Financial Planning Technician (FP). In addition, we receive a research grant for student research groups for securities studies from the Ishii Memorial Foundation for Securities Research Promotion.

Activities

In the second year, students learn the basics of finance, how to read the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, statistical data analysis methods, how to write reports, how to give presentations, etc., and then take on the challenge of the "Nikkei Stock League (writing reports on stock investment)." In addition, most students obtain Level 2 or Level 3 Financial Planners qualifications in their second year.
In the third year, students form teams for each theme and conduct research activities in order to take on the challenges of the "Alumni Association Scholarship Research (an on-campus prize essay contest)" and the "National Securities Seminar Competition." Every summer, they hold a seminar camp in Hokkaido and also participate in joint seminars with seminars from other universities.
In the fourth year, students will focus on graduation research and job hunting.
In addition, our seminar offers many opportunities for students to conduct research activities together across all years, and there is active interaction across years.

Student Voices

Department of Commerce Mitsuharu Matsuzaki
In the Mitamura seminar, we study finance. As part of our activities, we regularly read the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper, participate in the Nikkei Stock League and securities seminar competitions, and engage in a variety of other activities. In addition to studying, we also develop communication skills through a summer camp in Hokkaido in the summer of our third year and joint seminars with all students. I feel that this seminar is rewarding and leads to a fulfilling student life.

Department of Commerce Reina Sasame
In the Mitamura seminar, we conduct research on finance, and all the students work hard on their research activities under the motto "study hard and play hard." The most distinctive feature of the Mitamura seminar is that it is held jointly by students from all years, so students can interact with each other beyond their years. Another attraction of the Mitamura seminar is that students can receive a lot of advice from their seniors and deepen their understanding of finance.
