Takako Hashimoto Seminar (Research on SDGs and IT: Supporting SDGs with Information Technology)

Learn about the SDGs and information technology, and research methods for evaluating and supporting the SDGs using information technology.

Research Themes

In recent years, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which have been attracting attention in society and business, are international goals that were unanimously adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015 as a responsibility that all people should fulfill, with the motto of "leaving no one behind." In recent years, many companies have been incorporating the SDGs into their management. In this seminar, students will deepen their knowledge of the SDGs, as well as acquire research methods, logical thinking skills, presentation skills, and communication skills. Students will also acquire basic knowledge of information technology and statistical methods.

Activities

In this seminar, we conduct research using information technology to evaluate and analyze the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), which have become an important issue for society and business in recent years. In addition to learning basic knowledge about the SDGs, we will use information technology to visualize the SDGs initiatives and characteristics of companies and universities. Through these activities, students will learn data analysis using cloud environments, basic statistical processing, visualization, and how to write papers. Programming instruction will also be provided to those who wish. There are also guest lectures by people from companies, and we actively engage in exchanges with them.

This seminar participates in the "President Project" (SDGs project led by President) promoted by the university, and during the second and third year, students will have exchanges (joint seminars) with other seminars in the Faculty Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration and Economics, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Faculty of Policy and Information Studies. We will provide as many opportunities as possible for presentations, such as exhibitions, open lectures at Chiba University of Commerce, and academic conferences, to develop logical thinking, presentation, and communication skills.

In the Hashimoto seminar, you can have a variety of experiences, such as special lectures by people from companies, interactions with working people, presentations at exhibitions and events, and presentations at academic conferences. There are often times when you feel pressured to give a public presentation, but you can improve yourself through the things you can only do in this seminar. The atmosphere in the seminar is also very good, and everyone is friendly. It is always a bright and fun seminar.

Department of Economics
As part of President Project, the Hashimoto Seminar uses a web system to conduct research and analysis to improve the campus environment through the SDGs. SDGs is an abbreviation for "Sustainable Development Goals" and is an international goal to be achieved by 2030. Not only can you learn about computers, but you can also work on research from an international perspective, so I think this is a very rewarding seminar. The distance between teachers and students is close, and the atmosphere is always friendly.
