Learn about society through understanding the social security system!
Research Themes
The social security system protects us from various risks such as illness, nursing care, and disability so that we can continue to live our daily lives safely and happily without worry. However, there are currently people in Japan who fall through the safety net of the social security system, and the social security system is facing problems and challenges. In this seminar, we will learn about the mechanisms and issues of each social insurance, such as pensions and nursing care. In addition, we will consider inequality issues in Japanese society, such as child poverty. In this seminar, each student will consider the state of Japanese society and the challenges of the social security system from the perspective that Japan is a society of inequality.
Activities
Focusing on the issues of poverty and inequality in Japan, students will learn about Japan's social security system and its current state. The instructor will prepare and present a summary of the section of the assigned textbook. Afterwards, there will be a discussion on the topic. Students may also be required to write a short report. In addition, students will practice writing logical sentences and giving presentations.

In Saito's seminar, we learned the basics, such as how to write correct sentences and reports, and we also did group work and debates on inequality issues such as poverty in Japan. Before joining the seminar, I didn't know much about the social security system, but the professor's explanations were easy to understand, and I was able to learn about the social security system from the basics.

In Saito's seminar, we are learning about the social security system. We do group work to discuss issues related to social security, and we can study together with our seminar friends. I was able to visit welfare facilities and participate in volunteer work that allowed me to interact directly with elderly people, and I was able to feel firsthand the difficulties of caregiving. I was able to learn about the modern social security system from the basics in an easy-to-understand way.
