Hiroki Mori Seminar (Management Accounting)

Approaching the essence of an organization through management accounting

Research Themes

We will study management accounting, which brings out the performance of an organization. Creating strategies, setting goals, planning and executing plans, verifying results, thinking about future goals... Management accounting is "a mechanism or device for making the most of management resources (people, things, money, information) based on various financial and non-financial information to achieve the organization's goals," and is the very process of corporate management. There are many different ways of doing management accounting, and even though it is called accounting, there is no clear answer like there is in bookkeeping. That is why it is a fun field to search for answers that have no answers. Through the seminar, you will be exposed to "management accounting thinking," which takes into account all aspects of a company and aims for overall optimization, and you will cultivate brainpower that can be applied to the organization you belong to, your career design, and even life itself.

Activities

We place emphasis on three-stage learning and the independent research, presentations, and discussions of seminar students. First, in the second year, students learn management and marketing analysis methods and logical thinking to develop a way of looking at companies and organizations. Next, in the third year, students set specific themes and conduct group research on organizational management and its resulting performance. Finally, in the fourth year, students write a graduation thesis on a topic of their own interest as a culmination of their studies. Seminars proceed through student presentations and discussions, and teachers do not generally lecture as in regular classes. Through seminar activities, students both input and output in a fast cycle. There are also extracurricular activities such as factory tours, in-seminars, and training camps.
