Let's view the international economy as a familiar issue
Research Themes
Are you interested in the international economy? Some of you may think, "I'm interested in Japan, but not so much about other countries." However, as globalization progresses and the world becomes more closely connected, it is no longer uncommon for events in far-away countries and regions to affect our daily lives.
In Nakao's seminar, we delve deeply into these close connections in the world and learn together how trends in the international economy affect our lives. Students also choose their own research topics, research related materials, analyze data, and report their findings, gradually acquiring specialized knowledge. Through this independent learning, we aim not only to acquire knowledge, but also to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
If you have even a slight interest in international economics, that is enough to join Nakao Seminar. Let's work together to develop the ability to understand the appeal of academic studies and international economics.
Activities
- Acquiring basic knowledge about international economics
Students will gain knowledge of international economics while developing the foundations of reading and reporting skills. - Regional group work
There are many different countries and regions in the world, but Nakao's seminar focuses on the economies of Europe, America, and Asia, with group work organized by region. Students work together within each group to deepen their knowledge of their assigned region and, through repeated discussions about their research themes, improve their understanding of the research topic and their presentation skills. - Joint discussions with other universities
In the fall of their third year, students will participate in a joint discussion with other universities. In order to participate in the discussion, each regional group will consider and set a sub-theme based on the overall theme of the discussion. They will then report on and discuss the results of their research.

If you can take the initiative, you will learn a lot and it will become a valuable learning experience for your future job search. Nakao Seminar is the only seminar where you can freely deepen your study of economics in general, as the theme of international economics is so broad. Also, solving problems as a team is the key to succeeding in Nakao Seminar. If you are interested in economics or can work hard in a team, why not apply to Nakao Seminar? You will work with the same group of students for a long period of two and a half years. Choose your seminar carefully.
Department of Commerce Kaito Osaki
Nakao's seminar allows you to deepen your understanding of international economics from the start, so even if you have no prior knowledge, it's fine as long as you have even a slight interest in international economics. By learning the basics of how to write reports and gather materials, you can use this knowledge to write reports for other classes and to write your graduation thesis. There are also joint discussion meetings with other universities, and most of the work is done in groups, so there are more opportunities for communication than in other seminars. This allows everyone to become friends from an early stage. I would encourage current students who are having trouble choosing a seminar or who have even a slight interest in international economics to come and see us.
