YOKOYAMA Masahiro Seminar (Improving the value of services using data)

Why not use data effectively to create high-value services?

Research Themes

In the Yokoyama Seminar, we will think together with you about how to improve the quality and value of services while utilizing IT and data. In the seminar, we are challenging ourselves to learn in a way that will be useful in the digital society by combining the "learning from activities (project activities)" and "learning from academics (seminars)" of Faculty of Service Innovation. Through practical learning, we aim to develop logical thinking skills, planning skills for data utilization, and practical skills for data analysis, so that students can proactively solve problems and achieve tasks based on data.

Activities

"Research 2," aimed at second-year students, deals with web marketing.
In 2022, we worked on planning social media operations and proposing data-based improvement measures for Faculty of Service Innovation "Media Project." During the seminar, we also received cooperation from Katsuhiro Tsukioka of Faber Company, who gave a lecture on digital marketing in the course "Services and Information and Communication Technology 1" (July 2022).

Faber Company, Ltd.
We provide many web marketing tools, including the SEO tool "Mielca," which has been introduced in over 1,700 companies and the UX improvement tool "Mielca Heatmap," developed using the know-how we have cultivated in SEO consulting. We support companies' overall digital marketing, focusing on SEO and content marketing.

In "Research 3," aimed at third-year students, we aim to cultivate digital talent and work to promote digitalization in project activities in Faculty of Service Innovation.
In 2022, in preparation for Faculty of Service Innovation "Relaxation Service Project," seminar students identified issues at on-site project activities on campus and attempted to solve those issues using apps and data. The app they used was "Platio" by Asteria Co., Ltd. They created their own mobile apps based on their imaginations and operated them in actual events, learning how to plan, implement, verify, and improve the use of IT while going through the PDCA cycle.

Asteria Corporation
Asteria Corporation was founded in 1998 and is an IT company that provides products and services that "connect" systems, people, things, and thoughts. We develop and provide no-code products and services that enable the development of software, apps, etc. without the need for programming.

In "Research 4," which was aimed at fourth-year students, the university's student cafeteria was provided as a place for active learning, and students attempted to utilize data in the field of IoT-based services. During the activity, students met with relevant parties to define the problem and develop a plan, then installed IoT sensors in the cafeteria to collect data, from which they investigated the trends in users by time period and the actual purchase rate.

I am working on data analysis with the aim of selling bento boxes more effectively and using it for future promotions. I considered what kind of data I needed, considered the appropriate research method, and collected and analyzed the data. By reporting the results of the analysis and receiving feedback, I was able to learn the flow of data analysis to increase the value of services. I would recommend Yokoyama's seminar to anyone who wants to acquire planning and practical skills using data.

The appeal of the Yokoyama Seminar is that students are the main participants in activities, so you can try things that interest you. I am interested in digital transformation, and I am challenging myself to promote digital transformation on campus. In my third year, I used the mobile app I created to make reception at actual events paperless and to improve the work efficiency of inspection work. Planning and implementing the use of digital technology in the field of services is very rewarding, and I feel that it will be useful in the future.
