Rediscovering my hometown
Sakae Village is a mountain village with a population of 2,000 located in the northernmost part of Nagano Prefecture. On March 12, 2011, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck the village, causing devastating damage, but it was overshadowed by reports of the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred the day before, and it came to be called a "forgotten disaster area." In order to revitalize the village, we propose that Sakae Village "become a film location."
Ways to revitalize the local area
Sakae Village's unique atmosphere, located deep in the mountains and isolated from the everyday, makes it a perfect fit for the world of movies and stories. If we can successfully attract filming locations, it will raise awareness of Sakae Village and potentially increase the number of tourists and immigrants. "Pilgrimages" to filming locations have become a major tourist attraction both domestically and internationally, and in recent years have become increasingly popular, not only among individual travelers but also with travel agency tours. Furthermore, incorporating the traditional lifestyle of Sakae Village into films could potentially increase the interest of international tourists. To promote Sakae Village, we created an original virtual movie trailer that allows viewers to imagine the charms of Sakae Village and life there. The trailer includes footage of the village's traditional festivals and content focused on the village's specialty tomatoes. Through this tourism business of attracting filming locations (location tourism), we hope to revitalize Sakae Village and address the challenges it faces.
Comments and points regarding the award
I think it was good that the plan, which had never been used as a filming location, reexamined various aspects of why Sakae Village had not been chosen as a filming location, including a lack of PR, and that the proposers rediscovered the local charms of Sakae Village on foot. I also think that this proposal excelled in creating a PR video that focused on Sakae Village's role as a tomato-producing region. It also deserves praise for broadening its focus beyond the recovery from the earthquake disaster to include the social issues that have arisen as a result. However, the plan would have been even better if the proposal had included a proposal on how promoting tomatoes could be a reason for being chosen as a filming location.
