Samuel Gildart Seminar (Global Business)

Let's realize international development and progress through the study of international business!

Research Themes

There are two directions for learning about global business: "International Management" and "Multinational Corporations."
Both are fields that study global business, but while international management deals with a wide range of subjects, from methods of business talk across countries and cultures based on intercultural communication, and how to interact with customers outside of work, to organizational theory and marketing, multinational enterprise theory is characterized by its approach that also takes into account microeconomics and industrial organization theory. Of course, multinational corporations (e.g. Coca Cola) play a major role in modern society, and it goes without saying that their presence cannot be ignored.
This seminar will comprehensively study the global business of companies, focusing on examples from the international economy to deepen understanding.

Activities

In the spring semester, students will acquire basic knowledge of international management through reading basic literature on international management and case studies.
In the fall semester, students will continue to study international business and international economics while writing reports based on their own concerns. At the end of the semester, students will take a final test to review the knowledge they have acquired.
While deepening their understanding of the fundamentals of international business, students will be divided into groups to prepare for their thesis writing, and they will set thesis themes and identify issues to consider.
In the fall semester, students will write papers and present their findings at a discussion meeting.

Student Voices

Alimjan Asan, Department of Commerce
In the Global Business Seminar, I think you can compare large Japanese companies and companies around the world, and gain the ability to think about corporate management from a management perspective. You can also study English. I think the advantage is that you can talk casually with the teacher.

Department of Commerce Yoshitaka Saga
In this seminar, not only do we learn about global business, but the teachers also speak in English, so even people who are not good at English can gradually understand. I was also very bad at English, but I am starting to be able to understand. The class content is also well-designed and very easy to understand. If you have any questions, you can ask them right away. Let's all have fun learning together!
